Twenty-two people in the city have tested positive, the health ministry said. Officials said a control room has been activated at the National Centre for Disease Control in New Delhi to undertake regular monitoring of the situation.

The number of suspected cases can not be estimated, said Veenu Gupta, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical and Health & Family Welfare Department for the state, adding that samples are being collected daily from all residents in a three kilometer radius. Around 170 teams of medical and health department are engaged in the combing operation in the area.

Addressing a press conference here, she said: "To date, a total of 29 cases of Zika virus have been confirmed in Jaipur".

Rajasthan officials have said blood samples of 450 people, including 168 pregnant women, were taken for tests, and 29 of them tested positive for Zika virus during the recent outbreak.

The virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected female Aedes aegypti mosquito.
