Pelosi appears poised to again become speaker of the House after Democrats won the House of Representatives in last week's midterm election.

Moulton said he and his allies are bolstered by at least seven members-elect he who have made firm promises not to vote for Pelosi. She's the one that is driving this to a floor vote.

Varshini Prakash, founder of Sunrise Movement, criticized Pelosi in a statement Tuesday, saying that her climate change plan "is the equivalent of bringing a squirt gun to a raging drought-induced wildfire killing Americans right now".

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi speaks during the Polk County Democrats Spring Dinner, May 6, 2018, in Des Moines, Iowa. According to a CNN tally, 10 incoming freshman have said they'd oppose Pelosi, while 13 incumbents have vowed to oppose her. The group added that if Pelosi does not meet its demands, she should step aside in favor of someone who will. Pelosi will have to win a majority of support within the caucus to be nominated as speaker - something that is virtually assured - before the full House votes for a speaker in January, where the numbers will be critical.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., one of the leaders of the anti-Pelosi effort, said he was "100 percent confident" that the contingent of lawmakers trying to block Pelosi had the votes to do it. "She's a smart woman". They are also making the case to incoming members that voting against her in caucus but for her on the floor (in support of the caucus recommendation) will provide them with sufficient cover for their re-election races. After the 2016 elections, 63 Democrats opposed Pelosi in the leadership races but almost all of them voted for her later on the floor.

Meanwhile, Pelosi's outreach continues.

During a fundraiser in Washington D.C., liberal Democratic House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for all fossil fuel production to stop or else civilization has 12 years left to save the planet from catastrophe. But the longtime Democratic leader is working aggressively behind the scenes to rally members behind her bid, with the first test of her support likely to come Wednesday, when Democrats will debate a change to party rules.
