Dodgers GM bolts for Giants as arch rivalry takes new twist

The San Francisco Giants have hired Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi to be their president of baseball operations.

Their president, Larry Baer, launched his search by saying the franchise longed for a "Next-Gen" executive to run baseball operations.

The Giants have replaced general manager Bobby Evans - who was sacked weeks ago - with Farhan Zaidi, the Giants have announced. Under Zaidi's leadership, the Dodgers have won four consecutive division titles while advancing to the National League Championship Series the last three years and the World Series the last two seasons.

Zaidi will never see his goal to put the Dodgers back at the top of the Major League Baseball world come to fruition, but the opportunity with the Giants was one he simply could not pass up. Zaidi earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1998 and a PhD in economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 2011.

All that trailer really does is make me question why there isn't some kind of single-player component to PUBG . Why you'd want to be reminded that Suicide Squad exists is beyond me, but this is the world we live in now.

What he'll bring to the Giants is likely a shift in approach. "I have watched the Giants from afar and I have great respect for the organization's culture and many accomplishments".

Zaidi is expected to have the flexibility to hire someone as GM under him.

The Giants did not have a general manager present when the GM meetings began here at the Omni La Costa Resort on Tuesday. The expectation is San Francisco will fill that role under Zaidi.

The San Francisco Chronicle first reported the hiring Tuesday night.
