The fourth goal in the Manchester derby showed the gulf between the two rivals isn't only widening in their Premier League positions but in technical quality as well.

Defeat means United are as close to Cardiff in the relegation zone as league-leading City - a 12-point gap that was mentioned to Mourinho when asked whether their title hopes were over.

"I think we are not going to be relegated", the United boss said brusquely, before offering an upbeat analysis of a game in which Martial's penalty was their only shot on target and their goal difference went into negative figures. "It is different from a bad performance". We paid for the mistakes.

Raheem Sterling's cross from the right looked over-hit, but Bernardo managed to hook the ball into the centre of the box where David Silva collected and then fired past De Gea to send the Etihad wild.

The champions bossed it from start to finish, taking an early lead through David Silva and doubling te lead after the re-start through Sergio Aguero.

"You can go for stats, that's the way people who don't understand football, analyse football", protested Mourinho. "I don't go for stats".

Rapper Ice Cube takes aim at Trump with new song
In a politically-charged career that has lasted over 30 years, Ice Cube has never shied away from speaking his mind. Although he does not refer to him by name, the rapper could not be any less subtle.

Discussing the woeful pass completion stat, Jenas said: "There's no intensity or intent or plan to go and get the ball back actively".

Meanwhile, Mourinho blamed tiredness for his side's display.

City's victory was sealed by a memorable team goal from Ilkay Gundogan, the German finding the net after a 44-pass move to send his side two points clear in the standings ahead of Liverpool, which beat bottom club Fulham 2-0 earlier in the afternoon. Both Rashford and Lingard are life-long Red Devils, from Wythenshawe and Warrington, respectively, and coming through the academy ranks to break into the first-team. Not as the team that appears to use elaborate financial mechanisms to try to avoid failing sporting financial regulations, as the Abu Dhabi ownership has been accused of doing after internal correspondence leaked over the last week.

"It is two points", the City boss said. We changed a little bit the way we should press - but the goal from Sergio helped us a lot.

Whether a ruse on the part of Manchester United's social media operatives, or a genuine mistake, when the team was finally announced shortly thereafter, Paul Pogba was indeed nowhere to be seen.

Mourinho's men came from behind to win 2-1 at Bournemouth and Juventus late on in the past week, while City smashed Southampton and Shakhtar Donetsk for six.
