Kiwi pair hit a record 43 runs in an over

New Zealand pair Joe Carter and Brett Hampton shattered the records by smashing a mind-boggling 43 runs in an over.

It was a hard pill to swallow for young Central Districts bowler Willem Ludick when his first ball was sent for a boundary - and from their things only got worse.

43 runs is believed to be the most to have ever been taken from an over in "List A" (one-day) cricket.

With all 435 Congressional districts up for reelection tonight, that's definitely doable. The New York Times live results maps are a personal favorite.

The previous record for a List A one-day match was 39 runs from an over, set by Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura while batting for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi against Abahani Ltd in the Dhaka Premier League.

Willie Ludick, who grew up in Pretoria and was a member of the 2016 SA Under-19 team at the World Cup, was smashed for an incredible 43 runs off an eight-ball over in a domestic List A game between Central Districts and Northern Districts on Wednesday. A further six followed down the ground, before a single put Carter on strike.

The Bay of Plenty pair of Hampton and Carter combined to add 178 for the sixth wicket after linking up at 95-5. Ludick's bowling figures nosedived from 9-0-42-1 to 10-0-85-1. The stand was a Northern Districts record for the sixth wicket, surpassing the 150 set by BJ Watling and Peter McGlashan. Hampton missed his maiden List A century by just five runs, while Carter brought up his.
