"Over time, Office will use AI to help fill in many of these placeholders".

Ever since OpenOffice and then LibreOffice appeared as free alternatives to Microsoft Office, the need to pay for access to a decent office suite has diminished.

Many times, when users get distracted and need to come back to a document, picking up where they left off can be hard. It's also worth noting that the Microsoft To-Do app has a featured called shared lists created to let users collaborate on a lineup of tasks. The features are arriving first for Mac beta users, but they'll eventually be launched on both Mac and Windows, as well as online. They could type 'TODO: "finish this section or ' and Word would recognise and track them as to-dos", Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft 365, wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.

Rather than stopping to create a makeshift placeholder in Word that can be a struggle to find later, users will soon be able to take advantage of Microsoft's newly added AI-powered to-do function that can track your unfinished tasks and invite others to collaborate.

In addition to AI-based automatic to-do lists, Microsoft has also made is easy to bring someone else into a document by using an @mention. Clicking on a to-do item, says Microsoft, takes the user directly to that placeholder within the document.

All Blacks v England - all you need to know
England face New Zealand for the first time in four years on Saturday when the All Blacks visit Twickenham. The first four names will be recognisable to many rugby fans across the globe.

Microsoft Word is testing a new feature in Editor, the AI-powered writing assistant, that can turn Word document notes into a to-do list.

"Word sends them a notification with a "deep link" to the relevant place in the document".

Microsoft plans to enable these linked contacts to reply with their contribution, which the software would automatically insert into the document. "You will be able to pick from the results and insert content from another document with a single click", explained Spataro.

Right now, these features are only available as a preview on Word on the Mac for Office Insiders (Fast).
