Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz

Tito Ortiz stopped Chuck Liddell in the first round in a battle between two UFC Hall Famers at The Forum in Inglewood, CA Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) promoted by Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions 14 years after their first fight and 12 years after their rematch. "I was in great shape, ready to go, and he was the better man".

According to many viewers, it should've stayed that way.

Chuck Liddell was knocked out by Tito Ortiz in the first round of their third fight.

It quickly became clear that Liddell, 48, shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near the cage nor licensed to compete eight full years after a trio of violent knockout losses forced him out of the sport. I got caught. I came to give my best show.

Former UFC light heavyweight champions "The Iceman" and "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" have fought twice before. "I did it tonight by stopping Chuck Liddell, like I said I would". "You've got to understand, I love fighting. I don't know what I'm going to do". "I wish I had done a few things different, obviously, but it happens".

Provincial public health director Gul Ahmad Shah confirmed 44 wounded had been taken to the Khost city public hospital. The death toll is high as it is a Friday and people would have gathered at the Mosque for prayers.

Ortiz comes out of his corner quick, Liddell gauges the distance and Ortiz closes it. After the trilogy bout ended, though, the two shared a respectful moment inside the cage where they seemingly buried the hatchet.

"I work to try and pay the bills and I do it to entertain each and everyone of these fans", Ortiz said. "I respect him. He gets in that ring".

"Jackpot", Ortiz said when asked if he could put this win into words after the fight.

"I got in shape, I was ready for this fight". He wouldn't commit to any sort of retirement post-fight, though, and gave himself an out as to what the future could hold. "I'm not in the right state of mind to really talk about whether or not I'm done or not, but I felt good out there, and I had fun".
