Ricky Jay, veteran magician and actor, passed away of natural causes on Saturday in Los Angeles.

"He was one of a kind. We will never see the likes of him again", Simone said.

Jay, who was born Richard Jay Potash in Brooklyn, was introduced to magic by his grandfather. Matthias Buchinger and Max Malini being two such magicians.

Acclaimed playwright David Mamet directed three of Jay's one-man shows which were "Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants", "Ricky Jay: On the Stem", and "Ricky Jay: A Rogue's Gallery".

One of the first magicians to work in nightclubs, he also starred in several major Hollywood films including 1997 Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, and Paul Thomas Anderson's film Boogie Nights.

"Ricky was the first magician to be profiled on the PBS series "American Masters" in 2015, and was the subject of a 2012 documentary called "Deceptive Practice: "The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay". His and Weber's Deceptive Practices (being well-versed in all methods of illusion, sleight-of-hand, and con jobs) have been involved with productions like Francis Ford Coppola's The Escape Artist, Mike Nichols' Wolf, Neil Burger's The Illusionist, Sean McGinly's The Great Buck Howard, and Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Thirteen.

He founded the Deceptive Practices company with Weber in the early 90s, and they provided solution to production challenges for movies such as Forrest Gump, Congo, and The Prestige.
