Just last month, an insider attack where Gen. Scott Miller, the top USA commander in Afghanistan, was present, killed a key Afghan general and wounded an American one-star general.

The service member is the 8th American killed in action in Afghanistan this year.it is the 5th insider attack in the past four months against USA forces.

It said the incident was being investigated and the wounded service member was in a stable condition, but did not release the identity of the service member who had been killed.

The statement said the attacker was a member of the Afghan security forces and initial reports indicate the assailant was immediately killed by other Afghan forces.

US officials added that the incident is under investigation.

Another such attack in early September claimed the life of Command Sgt. Maj.

Brent Taylor, a Utah National Guardsman and former mayor of North Ogden, Utah, was the service member killed in the attack, a friend of the Taylor family told The Salt Lake Tribune on Saturday.
