Apple enables electrocardiogram on Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.1.2

Following the release of iOS 12.1.1 yesterday, Apple will be releasing watchOS 5.1.2 for the Apple Watch later today, reads a new press release from the Cupertino company. To comply with U.S. regulations, Apple has also announced that it will honor refund requests related to health features for up to 45 days after purchase.

It is estimated that AFib can affect up to two percent of the younger population and nine percent of those aged 65 and older in the U.S. With Apple Watch, AFib can be easily identified - and recognizing it could save your life. "With the release of these heart features, Apple Watch takes the next step in empowering people with more information about their health". Plus, once enabled, the feature will definitely make for a cool piece of tech to show off for nerds during the holiday season to their family and friends which in turn might just tempt them to buy it as well. We won't be getting it in Australia. Users will be walked through how to use the ECG and the irregular rhythm feature when their watches are all fully updated and ready to get monitoring.

To take an ECG, simply launch the new ECG app on the Apple Watch Series 4 and hold your finger on the Digital Crown.

Allows you to take an electrocardiogram similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram.

Just take your results with a mild dose of healthy scepticism.

Apple Watch Series 4

Apple Watch Series 4 devices all have built-in electrodes that can measure electrocardiograms, or ECGs. The Apple Watch 4 is being sold worldwide, of course, and it includes a heart sensor, but the app will be limited to the USA for now. Basically, that means it's a novel device unlikely to cause harm, and not the equivalent of a hospital-grade medical device.

The ECG app's ability to accurately classify an ECG recording into AFib and sinus rhythm was validated in a clinical trial of around 600 participants.

Receive notifications and animated celebrations when you achieve daily maximum points in a day during an Activity competition. If you don't see the update right away, it might take a hot second for the rollout to reach you-I haven't gotten it yet despite multiple refreshes.

"The ECG app on Apple Watch Series 4 captures heart rhythm in a moment when customers experience symptoms like a rapid or skipped heartbeat and helping to provide critical data to physicians", the Apple announcement notes.

Unfortunately, just because they're selling on that date doesn't mean they're shipping then too - given K. Other amiibo slated for release in late 2019 include Ken, Young Link, Isabelle, Pichu and Daisy.
