The organisation is in attendance at the World Aids Day commemorations at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

The event, organised by the Harry Gwala district municipality in partnership with the local Emvubukazi Methodist Church, was attended by the district's municipal leadership and local church leaders.

As the world celebrates Worlds AIDS DA on Saturday the country's now listed as having the world's largest antiretroviral treatment programme.

He said he had chose to speak out to help others seek treatment and fight the stigma surrounding the disease.

The South African National Aids Council Civil Society Forum says the common stigma against people affected and infected by HIV has lessened over the years.

If people don't know their HIV status, they can't protect themselves, their families, their partners.

The Umzimkhulu community joined others around the world with onsite HIV information, testing, and counseling for the local community attending the event.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, from the opposition Labour Party, said he wanted to "say to those living with HIV that your status does not define you".

"We have a conversation today called "Colour My HIV".
