'I WAS DEPRESSED': Sarah Hyland had suicidal thoughts before second kidney transplant

U.S. actress Sarah Hyland has described how having to undergo two kidney transplants left her "contemplating suicide", U.S. media report. "Christmas break, New Year's, Thanksgiving, my birthday, all of that spent in the hospital".

Fortunately, the Hyland learned that her younger brother was a match and was willing to give his kidney to her in a second attempt to correct her failing health.

But she has had the support of her boyfriend Wells Adams, who shared a lovely Instagram tribute just one week after she tragically lost her cousin in a drink driving accident. She had to schedule regular dialysis treatments along with her work on the ABC sitcom and other projects.

The ordeal left Hyland "very depressed", and she even contemplated suicide, she told the magazine. All was relatively well until October 2016 when her body began rejecting its new kidney, causing fatigue, fever and infections.

"When a family member gives you a second chance at life and it fails, it nearly feels like it's your fault... and it's not. I had gone through [my whole life] of always being a burden, of always having to be looked after, having to be cared for". Among these surgeries, she said she underwent a "painful" laparoscopy after being diagnosed with endometriosis and when the surgeons went to take out the old kidney, they found a hernia. "It's not a shameful thing to share".

Sarah Hyland's journey to wellness isn't for the faint of heart.

Texas falls out of AP Top 25; Texas Tech rises seven spots
Sophomore guard Jordan Poole was named Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in both games. As you can see below, there are seven Big Ten teams included in this week's Top 25 poll, with two more teams receiving votes.

Hyland received a kidney from her sibling in September 2017, just three days after meeting her current boyfriend Wells Adams. Though she's briefly touched on her health struggles with kidney dysplasia before, the actress has never been so open about the complications she faces with her chronic illness.

In the interview, Hyland also discussed her battles with endometriosis and an abdominal hernia, which both required surgery earlier this year. "Oh, and also, I had a frickin' hernia for nearly a year that went unnoticed", she continues. "I did not believe that that was a thing, but it is".

But with an infallible support system and a partnership with Adams, a "Bachelorette" alum, Hyland is optimistic about what lies ahead.

"I'm here to say that no-one should aim to be the weight that I am right now", she responded on Twitter at the time, adding: "I'm not in control of what my body looks like".

After six surgeries in a year and a half, Hyland says she's now "stable" and "super happy with life". But that list doesn't hold me back from anything.
