The couple, who were on holiday to celebrate their ten year dating anniversary, called police straight away, but they were unable to find it, even after prising up the grate.

"Here's a photo of the ring our officers recovered (and cleaned!)", the NYPD wrote on Twitter.

John said police had to physically stop him from climbing down the drain so he could search himself.

Proposing in New York's Times Square may seem like a romantic idea, but pick your spot carefully! Minutes later, the ring falls into a subway grate. Likely lost forever to subterranean NY. The department is now working on getting the ring back to its rightful owner in Europe.

It also turns out that the proposal didn't actually take place in Times Square, but in Central Park a few hours earlier.

The New York Police Department confirmed on Sunday that it had found the hapless duo. "WANTED", it said. "He was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate". " ... Officers rescued it & would like to return it to the happy couple". Here are some more photos, does anyone recognize them?

She removed herself from the media during her recent pregnancy, with everyone waiting for a big announcement that never came. However, Travis admitted he is still relying on Kylie to be changing their daughter's diapers while they're all on tour.

Another appeal was then put out, this time with images of the couple. The ring was gone.

NY police issued a "WANTED" post for the mystery couple, posting on Twitter, "She said Yes - but he was so excited that he dropped the ring in a grate".

"We are so thankful to everyone - especially the New York Police Department and everyone who shared our story", the couple said. The video shared by the NYPD shows a November 30 date stamp, at just before midnight.

Daniella Anthony accepted John Drennan's marriage proposal on Friday but as the happy couple walked through Times Square the ring slipped off her finger and fell down a grate.

The pair both get down on the ground to hunt for the ring (probably not in the list of things you want to happen during your proposal), before eventually seeming to give up.
