All-New Skoda Scala Unveiled First Product From Volkswagen’s New MQB Global Platform

Skoda has finally unveiled the all-new Scala. After all, it certainly needs to have more pizzazz in order to go up against the hugely popular Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus, and SEAT Leon, not to mention increasingly more successful models from South Korea such as the Kia Ceed and the Hyundai i30.

The Skoda Scala seems like a very promising product but we aren't sure whether this auto will be launched in the Indian market or not.

The design is better than the Rapid, clearly infused with Skoda DNA, but still very understated. The model is nearly 2 meters wide (1,988mm with mirrors), has a 2,649mm wheelbase and measures 4,362mm from bumper to bumper. It comes with freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, which can be paired with an optional 10.25-inch virtual cockpit display. It has a 467-litre boot space which increases to 1,410 litres with the rear seats folded. The Scala incorporates a new design language first shown on the Vision RS, and the sporty look will gradually be shared with upcoming models.

A new model of the Czech brand was the largest digital collection tubes in its class, built-in Internet, as well as a range of petrol and diesel turbo engine.

Four engines are expected to be offered in the United Kingdom - a 94bhp and 113bhp variant of the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, a 148bhp 1.5-litre petrol and a sole diesel option of a 113bhp 1.6-litre.

The Scala is an indirect replacement for the Rapid. The lower 1.0 L TSI engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox. The optional extended glass tailgate is reminiscent of the Volvo C30 - no bad thing - and carries the Skoda name script in full - a move other Skoda are set to follow.

VW-Skoda future cars for India will be based on the MQB-AO-IN platform and Skoda has already announced that they will bring at least 2 new cars every year in India from 2020. There are three gasoline units: an entry-level 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder producing 95 PS (94 hp), a mid-range 1.0-liter TSI with 115 PS (113 hp) and a top-of-the-line 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder that makes 150 PS (148 hp).

ŠKODA says the 1.0 G-TEC delivers 66 kW (90 PS) and provides the most environmentally friendly way to drive the SKALA.

Available safety features include an improved blind spot monitor system, which can detect vehicles up to 70 metres away, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, automatic high beams, reversing camera, parking assistance, and autonomous emergency braking. Transmission options include five- and six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch units.

Available as an option, the dynamic chassis control lowers the suspension by 15mm and offers standard or sport driving modes, along with eco and individual settings.

But they found themselves in a similar situation last season with Hazard's Belgium worldwide team-mate Thibaut Courtois. However, they are likely to offer him a four-year deal if he signs in the coming months.
