Buffalo Sabres v Pittsburgh Penguins

The 21-year-old winger was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday for defenseman Marcus Pettersson, ending a brief career with the Penguins that was limited to 42 games over three seasons.

Sprong has been a head-scratcher throughout his short tenure in Pittsburgh, frequently in Mike Sullivan's doghouse for his lack of effort back-checking defensively.

Sprong, a second-round draft pick of the Penguins in 2015 (No. 46 overall) departs the Penguins organization with four assists and 8:34 of ice-time per night in 16 appearances this season, and with four goals and nine points in 42 National Hockey League games over the last three seasons.

Dyche remains optimistic about his side's development, saying: "The key for me is to get back to a performance level that can win games".

Since Penguins GM Jim Rutherford promised changes in Pittsburgh almost a month ago, the team has reshuffled its roster trying to find the ideal combination. He has no goals, four assists, and just 16 shots on goal in 16 games this season. Pettersson has one goal in 49 games with the Ducks.

The Pens will get defenseman Marcus Pettersson in return for Sprong.
