Turkey officials slam Israel PM over Erdogan tweet

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan "should not preach to Israel" after the Turkish leader warned young Turks on Saturday: "Do not kick the enemy you have brought down to the ground".

The Israeli prime minister followed with another statement, saying, "Just now I was exposed to the daily lunacy of the antisemitic dictator Erdogan".

Turkey later recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv and expelled Israel's envoys to Ankara and Istanbul.

Israel expelled Turkey's consul-general in Jerusalem, who represents Ankara to the Palestinians, while Turkey threatened to sue the Jewish state at the International Criminal Court in the Hague.

Israel, like others, was caught off-guard by President Donald Trump's abrupt move to withdraw all the roughly 2,000 US forces from Syria in the coming weeks.

The Turkish president has previously called Israel "the world's most fascist and racist state".

In the past two years Turkey has conducted two offensives into northern Syria.

Pascal Siakam's 26 points and 20 from Kyle Lowry helped to keep Toronto in the hunt before the Sixers ran away with the game. Toronto (25-10) still lead the eastern conference with the best record in the National Basketball Association .

Trump said he and Erdogan also discussed "heavily expanded" trade between the United States and Turkey, after the two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies' relationship went into a tailspin over the summer as a result of a number of issues.

Trump then asked US National Security Adviser John Bolton, who had listened in on his phone call with Erdogan, whether this was true-to which Bolton answered that it was, but added that US troops must remain in Syria.

When questioned about resignations of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and the special usa envoy to the global coalition fighting the Islamic State Brett McGurk, Mulvaney said that it is "not unusual" for cabinet members to resign "over these types of disagreements".

Following Trump's move, Erdoğan said Friday that Turkey had chose to postpone its cross-border operation into areas controlled by the YPG in eastern Syria for some time.

US Press Secretary Sarah Huckerbee Sanders angrily defended Mr Trump's decision after Fox News host Brian Kilmeade claimed Mr Trump had "refounded ISIS" with his decision.

"We discussed ISIS, our mutual involvement in Syria, and the slow and highly coordinated pullout of U.S. troops from the area", Trump said in a tweet, referring to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group.

Until now, American troops have been stationed in northeastern Syria, along the Iraqi border, blocking such a corridor, through which Iran could more easily distribute advanced weapons and technology throughout the region, especially to its Lebanese client the Hezbollah terrorist army.
