Engagement is very much the keyword for Boston Red Sox president and chief executive officer Sam Kennedy when discussing how the franchise, and the wider Major League Baseball community, is to adapt to the US' sports betting scene, reports the Boston Herald.

In the past, sports teams and players have declined the traditional championship visit to meet the president.

Once seen as customary, the World Series champion Boston Red Sox have announced they will be visiting the White House after recent National Basketball Association and NFL title winners either rejected their invitations or had them rescinded by the Trump administration.

White House visits have become a polarizing topic in recent years, particularly after Trump took office.

"I'm not gonna embarrass anybody", Cora, a native of Puerto Rico, told reporters Monday at the Red Sox's 2018 World Series documentary premiere at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston.

The Red Sox have been invited to the White House following October's World Series victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cora called out Trump in September after the president questioned the death toll of Hurricane Maria, which slammed Puerto Rico in 2017. What's going to happen between a pitcher a batter at this very moment, what will this outcome be - you can see in the future where that all can happen very fast in real time. Everybody's panicking. It's not easy. Yeah, we do. We know that. And I respect him.

"We're working through logistics right now", said Kennedy.

"I'm gonna use my platform the right way", Cora said. On June 6, when the Philadelphia Eagles attempted to send a delegation of only a few players, the White House canceled the visit. I know probably he doesn't feel that way. 'It won't be Golden State or Cleveland going'.

The Houston Astros visited the White House a year ago, and the Washington Capitals made the short trip earlier this year after winning the Stanley Cup.

NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. also visited the White House after winning a points title in 2017.
