Chance to see meteor shower in skies over north-east tonight

If you missed out on a few meteor showers, or eclipses, don't worry, 2019 has got you covered. During its peak in early January, anywhere from 60 to as many as 200 Quadrantid meteors can be seen per hour in flawless conditions.

"A lot of meteor showers last days - the Quadrantids last a few hours", NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke told Space.com.

The Quadrantids meteor shower is set to peak overnight between Thursday, January 3 and early Friday, January 4. You'll want to face northeast.

The Quadrantids meteor shower is not the only astronomical event taking place this month. But EarthSky.org notes that predicting the peak of a meteor shower is just an educated guess.

Whether you live there or are willing to make the venture be sure to head down to the Southern Hemisphere to witness the spectacle of a total solar eclipse.

Aussie dollar bounces from 10 year low
The dollar index .DXY , measuring the greenback against a basket of six other currencies , was last down 0.5 percent. Benchmark U.S. crude shed 92 cents to $45.62 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

It's most visible to people living in the northern hemisphere, which means we should be in a great position to see all the action.

Also triggered from the debris from Halley's Comet, the Orionid meteor shower will take place October 2 to November 7, peaking at night on October 21-22.

"The radiant point for the Quadrantids is easy to find as it sits near the Big Dipper, one of the most well-known constellations in the sky", wrote AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Lada in the release.

Are you fond of seeing meteor showers as well? The meteor shower is also triggered by debris from the Comet Tempel-Tuttle that pass through the earth.

On January 5 and 6, depending on where you live, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in China, in North and South Korea, in Japan, in Russian Federation, and over the North Pacific Ocean and the Aleutian Islands.
