Overall, the recall included 1,727 cartons of peaches, 1,207 cartons of nectarines and 365 cartons of plums, according to the FDA. All those products could be contaminated with the Listeria organism.

The FDA said the fresh nectarines were sold at Costco stores in California. Affected nectarines and peaches were distributed to Market Basket locations in MA. The peaches and nectarines were sold in bulk with the country of origin listed as Chile and price look-up, or PLU, codes 4044, 3035 or 4378.

Listeria is one of the most common bacterium that causes food poisoning in America, but contrary to other bacterium, its effects can take a while to take hold.

The peaches, nectarines and plums were distributed to ALDI in MS and Tennessee. They were packaged in a 4-pound plastic clamshell featuring the Rio Duero brand and the number 7804650090212.
