A Powerball ticket worth $250,000 will expire if the victor doesn't claim their prize by Thursday.

Powerball tickets are sold in MI and 43 other states, Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Another drawing is scheduled for Saturday night.

While the draw normally takes place at 8.30pm, yesterday the results weren't available until nearly 11pm.

The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said next Thursday's draw had the potential to set a new record of its own.

Lotto officials have let Australians angling for a piece of tonight's enormous $80 million Powerball jackpot in on the numbers that are most likely to be drawn.

"We aim to conduct the draw and have the results after 8.30pm AEST (9.30pm AEDT), however it's more important the processes and regulations are followed". The jackpot is worth $96 million.

It is the second time in less than six months that the jackpot has soared to $100 million.

Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said local and national records would be broken if one player takes out the massive prize.
