Milwaukee Brewers trade OF Keon Broxton to New York Mets

Outfielder Keon Broxton is headed to NY while right-handed reliever Bobby Wahl, right-handed pitching prospect Adam Hill, and infield prospect Felix Valerio will head back to Milwaukee in return. It doesn't preclude the team from getting a name outfielder and he gives them a reasonable alternative to Juan Lagares, should Lagares end up hurt again or traded.

Wahl, 26, has made 14 career relief appearances in the Major Leagues with Oakland (7 games in 2017) and NY (7 games in 2018). He produced 73 strikeouts in just 45.0 innings pitched.

The Mets also signed left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago to a minor-league deal. Hill was the Mets' fourth-round pick previous year out of the University of SC. He struck out 26 in 15 1/3 innings for Class-A Brooklyn in 2018. Valerio, 18, batted.319/.409/.433 with three home runs, 16 stolen bases (in 22 chances), and an.843 OPS through 303 PA in the Dominican Summer League. His 84 hits tied for the league lead. Plate appearances in Milwaukee were scarce last season for the 28-year-old, who returned to Triple-A for the fourth time, slashing a below-average.254/.323/.421 over 334 plate appearances in one of the minors' most hitter-friendly yards. He was acquired by Milwaukee from Pittsburgh, along with right-handed pitcher Trey Supak, on December 17, 2015. After having a breakout 2017 with 20 homers, 49 RBI, and 21 steals, the right-handed hitting outfielder struggled in 2018, hitting just.179 with four homers and 11 RBI in 51 games.
