Neil Young pays tribute to late ex-wife Pegi Young Far Out Staff

Neil Young paid tribute to musician Pegi Young, his ex-wife, who died last week at age 66 after a battle with cancer.

"Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children", Neil wrote on his website. You will live inside them and [inside] the many you have touched'.

There was an outpouring of love following the January 2 news that Pegi Young, the activist and singer-songwriter, had died a day earlier, on January 1. Her death was announced on her official Instagram account. "We request that the families' privacy be respected at this time".

Four years ago, Neil filed for divorce from Pegi after 36 years of marriage. However, after almost 40 years of marriage and countless love songs dedicated to their relationship, Neil filed for divorce from Pegi in 2014.

The first Bridge School Concert, in 1986, an all-star benefit organized by Pegi Young, raised enough funds to open the school in 1987 in Hillsborough, Calif. And while Neil Young remarried in 2018, to actress Daryl Hannah, he hadn't made a public statement about the passing of his ex until Saturday, January 5. Neil married Pegi in August 1978 and they had two children together, 41-year-old son Ben and 35-year-old daughter Amber. In a letter to fans, Young cited "personal reasons" for no longer hosting the concerts.

Pegi also began appearing on Young's recordings and performed "Philadelphia" with him at the 1994 Academy Awards.

In 2007, Pegi released a self-titled solo LP and went on to release albums Foul Deeds (2010), Bracing for Impact (2011), Lonely in a Crowded Room (2014) and Raw following her divorce.
