Scientists expect cure for cancer in 1 year

Cancer cure

Big news in the medical research field today, as a small team of scientists claims to have found a complete cure for cancer, believing they will be able to offer the treatment within the next year.

Accelerated Evolution Biotechnologies Ltd (AEBI) chairman Dan Aridor said the company has developed a multi-target toxin (MuTaTo) that kills cancer cells, essentially working like an antibiotic.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide.

There are more than 100 types of cancer, and nearly half of all deaths from the disease are caused by lung, liver, stomach, or bowel cancer.

The treatment, which is known as MuTaTo, will use cancer-targeting peptides and a toxin to kill cancer cells.

An Israeli biotech company said preliminary research on mice gives it hope of developing a cancer cure "within a year's time" - but it still has years of testing ahead of it before it could get US approval - even if it works for humans. This, they say, is something that conventional cancer medication can not achieve.

"The probability of having multiple mutations that would modify all targeted receptors simultaneously decreases dramatically with the number of targets used", Morad said. "Instead of attacking receptors at one time, we attack receptors three at a time - not even cancer can mutate three receptors at the same time".

The neighbourhoods of Regla and 10 de Octubre and the town of San Miguel de Padron had been affected by the tornado. The neighbourhoods of Regla and 10 de Octubre appeared to have suffered some of the worst damage.

Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells.

"If it does not completely annihilate the cancer, the remaining cells can start to get mutations again, and then the cancer comes back, but this time it is drug resistant", said Morad.

He added: "My colleagues here at American Cancer Society tell me phage or peptide display techniques, while very powerful research tools for selecting high affinity binders, have had a hard road as potential drugs".

The experts even claimed the drug's side effects will be next to nothing, especially when compared to traditional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Current cancer drugs can destroy non-cancerous cells, thus creating sometimes severe side effects.

The scientists will analyze it and give the patient a personalized cocktail of MuTaTo that will specifically destroy their particular cancer.

Dr Ilan Morad, a colleague of Aridor, said he was hopeful about the cure.

An AEBi spokesman acknowledged in an email to CNBC that "complete cure for cancer meaning that we will have the complete solution ready for first tryout in humans".
