Delta Air Lines, the dominant carrier in Atlanta, and other airlines said they were advising passengers to get to the airport at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before worldwide trips.

A representative for the Atlanta airport did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.

The passenger with the firearm eventually reported it to the airline, saying they had forgotten the weapon was in their carry-on luggage.

"Upon the customer's disclosure, the airline reported the incident to TSA, " Delta tells PEOPLE in a statement.

Delta said the passenger on the January 2 flight reported the firearm and was cooperative, according to The Washington Post.

It was the first business day after security screeners missed pay for the first time due to partial government shutdown.

No-shows among screeners across the U.S. soared yesterday and again today, when the Transportation Security Administration reported a national absence rate of 7.6 per cent, compared with 3.2 per cent on the comparable day a year ago. "So in fact, the national call out rate was higher a year ago than this year on that date".

Social media reacts to Westbrook dropping Spurs' Marco Belinelli
The Thunder are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games playing on one days rest. With the Spurs up 130-128, Belinelli had the ball stolen at midcourt, leading to a tying layup by Grant with 5.6 seconds left.

Nevertheless, again per CNN: "TSA screeners have struggled to detect weapons even in the absence of a shutdown".

CNN points out that in 2015, the acting administrator for the TSA was reassigned to another department after a report concluded that employees "failed to detect explosives and weapons in almost every test that an undercover team conducted at dozens of airports".

TSA screeners weren't paid on January 11, their first full paycheck since the government mostly shuttered more than a dozen major departments and agencies on December 22 in a dispute over whether to fund a wall at the Mexico border.

"The four dining locations and one gift shop in Concourse G will reopen as well", Chin said Sunday afternoon.

The TSA's army of screeners who make sure passengers adhere to security procedures before boarding flights at airports around the country are, of course, among the some 800,000 federal employees affected by the ongoing government shutdown. A great number of TSA agents have been calling in sick, leading to greater delays at airports. Still, the agency maintains that flying is safe.

"Security standards will NOT and have NOT been compromised", Bilello, wrote on Twitter on January 11.

The message adds that security standards "remain uncompromised" at the nation's airports.

David P. Pekoske, the TSA administrator, said last week that uniformed officers in the agency can expect a $500 bonus on Tuesday for their work during the holiday season. According to the administrator, the funding was possible 'because of unique authorities provided TSA in law'.
