BA flight rocked violently by strong crosswinds

A British Airways flight to Gibraltar was forced to divert to Malaga after strong crosswinds caused the plane to roll heavily from side to side.

However, it eventually touched down at 12:41 p.m.in the southern Spanish city of Malaga after strong winds prevented it from landing in its intended destination.

Filmed from a witness on the ground, the plane can be seen violently rocking back and forth as the pilot desperately tries to keep it straight.

Richard Whalley captured the video in Gibraltar. "(I) heard loud engine noises so looked out and saw the plane doing amusing manoeuvres".

"The flight has landed safely, and passengers have left the aircraft normally".

A spokesperson for BA released a statement saying "at no point was there a risk to safety".

A spokesman for British Airway said the Gibraltar Chronicle, "Due to strong winds in the Gibraltar area, our pilots made a decision to land in Malaga as a precaution".

It added that safety is always its top priority.

British Airways apologised for the diversion and said ground transport was being arranged for customers to continue their journey to Gibraltar.

Passengers onboard the flight from London Heathrow had to be flown to Malaga, Spain, after heavy gales buffeted the plane.
