During the National Basketball Association on TNT with Ernie, Shaq, Kenny, and Charles, Smollett found himself as the butt of one of Barkley's jokes. Prosecutors now allege Smollett staged the attack with the help of two friends, whom he paid $3,500 by check, in a ploy to pressure the producers of the Fox series "Empire" into giving him a raise.

Smollett has denied the allegations against him.

His lawyers said Johnson's comments had no place in the American legal system and said Smollett's presumption of innocence was trampled upon at the expense of Smollett.

It's been a whirlwind of a saga, one that reportedly stemmed from Smollett being dissatisfied with his salary on Empire.

"Two black guys beating a black guy up", Barkley quipped before breaking into laughter.

His major piece of advice to Jussie and the rest of America: "Do not commit crimes with checks". "Do not commit crimes with checks".

Among the jokes that Barkley got off was a reference to the fact that Smollett allegedly wrote a check to the brothers involved in the attack, saying that if you're going to break the law, leaving any sort of a paper trail is not wise.

Nigeria election 2019: Who benefits from poll delay?
Last Saturday, just hours before the polls were to open, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced a one-week postponement, triggering widespread anger.

"I can't believe you, Chuck", Johnson said, shaking his head, during the early portion of the two-minute segment at halftime of the network's broadcast of Thursday's Rockets-Lakers game.

"Just thinking out loud", Barkley added.

"But my immediate reaction was..."

If that's not laugh-out-loud amusing, then I honestly don't know what is.

"She said, "It was a black person". "So that I could", another pause, "kill him".

"You wasted all that damn time and money", Barkley continued. You know what you shoulda did?
