Combatting Trump, Two States Pull National Guard Troops From the Border

The one-day $1-billion California budget gimmick that has lasted for almost a decade

California Governor Gavin Newsom is reportedly planning the abrupt withdrawal of his state's National Guard troops from the U.S. border this week; calling the President's policy towards national security a "manufactured crisis".

Newsom's move is an escalation of a long-running battle over immigration between California and the federal government, with the state's Democratic majorities pledging to serve as a buffer to Trump's hard-line rhetoric and policies. When Brown, a fellow Democrat, approved the mission in April, he said no California troops would participate in immigration-related activities. The governor went on to claim that border crossings are at record lows and argued that immigrants commit fewer crimes than native-born citizens.

"The border "emergency" is a manufactured crisis," Newsom said in prepared remarks.

Governor Gavin Newsom's office said he was signing the order ahead of his State of the State speech on Tuesday.

According to Newsom's office, only 100 of the 360 National Guard troops now stationed at the border will remain there.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham last week ordered most National Guard troops deployed at the state's border with Mexico to withdraw, also rejecting the Republican president's contention of a crisis. Kamala Harris. Newsom has only been governor for a hot second, but he spent eight high-profile years as Brown's lieutenant governor, a period in which Newsom built a lot of credibility and credit among progressive activists. The Pentagon has sent thousands of troops to points along the southern border.

Last week during the State if the Union, Grishman shared a video of her literally tearing through walls in a jab to Trump's southern border wall plans.

In November, migrants from a Central American caravan were hit with tear gas from USA authorities as they approached the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Parts of the government could close again if Congress and the White House do not reach a spending deal by Friday. The stalemate remains over $5.7 billion to help fund the president's border wall. A budget standoff between Trump and congressional Democrats over the proposal led to a 35-day government shutdown, the longest in USA history.

The El Paso county judge and commissioners' court passed a resolution before the rally decrying Trump's rhetoric, stating that the county was "disillusioned by President Trump's lies regarding the border and our community".
