The court filing quoted emails recovered from Hasson's account in which he spoke about "dreaming of a way to kill nearly every last person on the earth".

A US Coast Guard lieutenant and self-proclaimed white-nationalist with a small arsenal plotted to kill a slew of journalists and democrats - including Sen.

"The defendant intends to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country", read a motion for detention filed in the U.S. District Court in Maryland.

"I'm thankful to the authorities who worked on this case and grateful no one was hurt", Omar said in a statement Wednesday night.

Hasson had allegedly been planning some kind of attack for years, writing in a draft email in June 2017 that he was considering a "bombing/sniper campaign". "Guide my hate to make a lasting impression on this world", the email said.

The Office of the Federal Public Defender in Maryland did not immediately respond to a request for comment and the Coast Guard could not immediately be reached for comment.

Christopher Hasson was arrested on February 15 for possession of a firearm while being an unlawful user or addict of the opioid Tramadol, but those charges "are the proverbial tip of the iceberg", prosecutors said. Prior to that he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1988 to 1993 after which he joined the Army National Guard for about two years.

Some of those bomb targets also were on the Coast Guard officer's hit list. Prosecutors said Hasson consulted the manifesto regularly. McBride declined to comment further, citing the open investigation. They also say he was an admirer of the white supremacist terrorist Anders Breivik.

The manifesto outlined how Breivik planned and prepared his attacks with the aim of providing an outline for others planning similar terrorist operations, the US court filings say.

He searched the manifesto for references to steroids, which Breivik took in preparation for his massacre.

When law enforcement raided Hasson's apartment, they said they found a locked container loaded with more than 30 vials of human growth hormones, The Washington Post reported.

Navratilova also campaigns for gay rights after suffering personal abuse when she came out during her career in the 1980s. She also points to her friendship with Renee Richards, the transgender woman who fought to compete in the 1976 U.S.

Breivik encouraged identifying targets and traitors.

A list Hasson compiled in January, federal prosecutors said, included names presumed to be the following Democratic lawmakers: Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of NY, and Sens.

Names on Hasson's spreadsheet, on his work computer, included: • Joey (no last name), but prosecutors believe it to be MSNBC's Joe Scarbarough • MSNBC's Chris Hayes • Sen.

The claims first were found by Seamus Hughes of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University and then shared with Military.com, the report said.

Federal agents found 15 firearms - including several rifles - and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition inside Hasson's basement apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland. He also spent time perusing US military manuals on improvised munitions and tactical handbooks.

The US Coast Guard's 2018 register of officers lists a Christopher P. Hasson as a lieutenant as of last April.

"The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts unsafe to human life that are meant to affect governmental conduct", Hur said. Scraping the "tip of the iceberg", the prosecution uncovered that Hasson had subscribed to extremist views for years and had contemplated staging "biological attacks followed by attack on food supply". "BLM [Black Lives Matter] protests or other left crap would be ideal to incite to violence".

The court filing describing Hasson's plot was first noted by Seamus Hughes, the deputy director of George Washington University's program on extremism and a former U.S. anti-terrorism official. He said he had been a skinhead for over 30 years and was exhausted of protests and demonstrations, saying, "I was and am a man of action".

"You can make change with a little focused violence".

Hasson's commitment to destruction appeared to increase in recent weeks, according to details from prosecutors.
