Report Eagles expected to pick up Nick Foles $20M contract option

When Nick Foles walk off the field against the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round, it was looked at as the final time the back-up quarterback would suit up for the franchise.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Nick Foles are expected to part ways this offseason, but just how and when, is a question that'll be discussed over the next few months.

Brisbane airport evacuated due to emergency situation
There are unconfirmed reports of a man with knives in the terminal and the threat of a bomb. Brisbane Airport has been evacuated as emergency crews respond to an "emergency incident".

Foles, 30, threw for 1,413 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions while appearing in five regular season games and two playoff games a year after he led the Eagles to the franchise's first Super Bowl victory. And comments from both him and Eagles brass after the season indicate Foles will, in fact, try buying his way to free agency for what figures to be his last, best opportunity to find a starting opportunity. The first shoe in the dynamic just dropped, as Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team will pick up his $20 million mutual option.

If the Eagles, however, allow him to become a free agent, they would receive a compensatory draft pick, Rapoport said. If the Eagles did that, Foles would count around $25 million on their salary cap, but he could be traded. If the Eagles do indeed plan on franching Foles, however, that means they plan on carrying him into the new league year - and plenty of players are going to be either released or take paycuts to make it happen.
