Federal Prosecutors Reportedly Subpoena Trump Inaugural Committee

Federal prosecutors in NY have informed the Trump inaugural committee that they intend to subpoena the committee for documents, according to a source familiar with the outreach.

An inaugural committee spokesman confirmed the receipt of the subpoena in a statement to TPM.

"We have just received a subpoena for documents", the statement read.

A spokeswoman told The Associated Press that committee had received the subpoena and was still reviewing it, adding "it is our intention to cooperate with the inquiry".

The New York Times reported late a year ago that federal prosecutors are examining whether anyone from Qatar, Saudi Arabia or other Middle Eastern countries made illegal payments to the committee and a pro-Trump super political action committee. Reports suggest that the probe, still in its early stages, is focused on whether funds were misspent and whether any of the private individuals from which the committee accepted donations were seeking to buy influence with the incoming administration.

At least one person has said he funneled foreign cash into the inaugural committee in exchange for tickets.

TPM reported last month that the inaugural committee had failed to disclose key details about its finances to the IRS. The amount raised by Trump's inaugural committee, chaired by real estate developer and investor Thomas Barrack, was the largest in history, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

In April raids of Mr. Cohen's home, office and hotel room, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents obtained a recorded conversation between Mr. Cohen and Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former adviser to Melania Trump, who worked on the inaugural events.

Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen has been extensively interviewed by prosecutors in the Southern District office.
