As per a recent report from Reuters, it is believed that Google will soon start developing its own chipsets.

The sudden surge in the chip-related hiring process is indicating that Google is planning to develop its own chips.

Company has hired more than a dozen microchip engineers in city, will recruit more The search giant becomes the first among rivals, including Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, to set up a chip design team in India.

The Indian-based team is said to be working closely with Google's Silicon Valley team on refine and test new chip designs ahead of having them taped out by its fabrication partners. Word is that Google plans to expand this team with even more hires, with some suggesting it could grow to 80 strong by the end of the year.

Rajat Bhargava describes himself on LinkedIn as Google's "silicon site lead" in Bengaluru, saying he joined last May after a decade at Broadcom and a year at Intel. Although, Jim McGregor, an expert from the semiconductor industry also believes that Google is cooking something in Bengaluru. The obvious reason for companies designing their own processors is cost. It would give Google an ability to optimize the software with hardware more precisely.

Device makers like Apple, Google, Samsung and Huawei are constantly looking for ways in which they can help to differentiate their products, particularly in the hugely competitive smartphone space. According to the latest report, the tech giant will be aiming to reduce its dependency on traditional chip manufacturers, and offer a more integrated experience to customers thanks to the development of in-house silicon. The recent from Reuters is making things more clear and precise. Obviously the company has a big need for data centers, but it also builds and sells smart speakers, smartphones, laptops, routers, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and so forth.

Google is working on the chip's design since 2014.

This progression hardly comes as a surprise as Google's SoC development plans haven't exactly been a well-kept secret. Similarly, there's a Titan M security chip for Pixel 3, which improvises the security.
