The shows will be based on the following Marvel characters: Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler.

Marvel's M.O.D.O.K. centers around the funniest-looking villain in the entire superhero canon. Comedian Patton Oswalt is set to produce MODOK, while Chelsea Handler will produce Tigra & Dazzler and Kevin Smith will produce Howard the Duck. The chatty fowl be brought back to screens by avowed comicbook nut (and occasional writer) Kevin Smith alongside Aqua Teen Hunger Force veteran Dave Willis. The series will all lead into a special animated event for Hulu, "Marvel's The Offenders". In the show, Howard will be trapped in a world he never made, but hopes to return home with the help of Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him into crispy duck.

Of the celebrity names on that list, Smith and Oswalt stand out as contributors with significant comics experience-though Smith has always been associated with DC heroes like Batman and Green Arrow.

Blum is repped by UTA and Circle of Confusion. "Marvel's Hit Monkey" comes from writers Josh Gordon and Will Speck, with Gordon, Speck and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers. The series will follow the egomaniacal supervillain as he struggles to maintain control of his evil organization, as well as his over-the-top family. They are repped by CAA and Management 360. Marvel's Hit-Monkey explores the story of a wronged Japanese snow monkey who is mentored by the ghost of an American assassin and uses his skills to cut a wide swath of revenge through the Tokyo underworld. Jeph Loeb serves as Executive Producer, while writers and additional Executive Producers for the project will be announced at a later point. Handler is known for hosting her own talk shows on both E! and Netflix, Chelsea Lately and Chelsea respectively.

Marvel has produced live-action shows for ABC, Netflix, Hulu and Freeform, with more original Marvel series coming to the Disney+ streaming service, including a Loki series, a Scarlett Witch/Vision series and a Falcon/Bucky series. The Punisher and Jessica Jones are still hanging on for now, but might not be long for this world either. As Variety exclusively reported, the deal for the original four shows includes a clause that prevents the characters from appearing in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after cancellation.

The new Marvel TV series will join other already announced Hulu-ordered adult animation series Crossing Swords and Solar Opposites, and the all-ages reboot of Animaniacs, all slates to drop in 2020.
