Tiger Woods got back in the game with a 66, and one shot from a fairway bunker that dazzled the gallery.

As so many players in the field - including McIlroy and Johnson themselves - have pointed out, Club de Golf Chapultepec can yield very low scores, but it can also send players plummeting down the leaderboard in an instant.

Johnson responded from his double bogey on the 10th hole with two straight birdies on Sunday (NZT). He had to settle for a 70.

Dustin Johnson's stellar play all weekend in Mexico meant that Tiger Woods was out of contention for a win midway through his third round on Saturday - but Woods' solid effort was spoiled by an ugly double-bogey 7 on a par-5.

Woods was on course for much better until he four-putted the par-five 15th for a double-bogey and dropped another shot on the 16th, though he birdied the 18th to limit the damage.

A stunning pitch from a tough lie from Johnson set up a tap-in birdie at the 15th, where McIlroy hit a brilliant approach under the trees but missed his 12-foot eagle attempt. "I'm thinking it's going to at least take 10 (under) to maybe even a 59 depending on how he finishes the day".

Anthony Crolla vs Vasyl Lomachenko agreed for April 12
The Matchroom chief said: " Lomachenko is a great talent, but Anthony is in great shape and ready for this chance ". But Lomachenko and his father/trainer, Anatoly, prefer Lopez to have a title before they met.

Johnson kickstarted his round with an eagle at the par-four second, where he hit his tee shot to four feet.

McIlroy mixed seven birdies with four bogeys to shoot a third-round 68 playing alongside Johnson, with former Masters champions Patrick Reed and Sergio Garcia a further three strokes back in the group tied for third.

"Especially after the eighth hole, playing the last 10 holes in four-under par to keep myself within some sort of touch of DJ is nice".

"I battled", McIlroy said.

"It's getting really bouncy", he said.
