It's also not quite a done deal, as Malek's triumph at this weekend's Academy Awards means the Bohemian Rhapsody star can command a heftier fee.

No details have yet been revealed about the character that Malek would play - though the report suggests that it could be a blind man, which would continue the tradition of Bond villains who come with distinctive physical traits.

As for the villain, sources indicate there is renewed interest in tapping recent Oscar victor Rami Malek, after it was initially thought that scheduling could not be worked out with his commitments on the final season of "Mr. Robot". Producers have reportedly met with other actors to play the role, but Malek has always been the top choice, apparently.

Outside of the villain casting, the Variety report says producers are searching to fill three more roles, two of which are expected to be played by women.

Daniel Craig is returning to play James Bond once again in the still-untitled Bond 25, and now a new report says that the British spy will be facing off against a villain to be played by recent Oscar victor Rami Malek. One is a new MI6 agent and the other is a friend to James Bond not unlike Olga Kurylenko's character in Quantum of Solace.

There are two remaining days of testing this week, before the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on 14-16 March.

Sources indicate that Billy Magnussen is the top choice to play the Central Intelligence Agency operative that crosses paths with Bond, though it's not known if an actual offer is on the table.

And there's also talk of Fukunaga being the one to work on the script, despite recent reports that Scott Z. Burns had been choppered in to re-write Neal Purvis and Robert Wade's previous draft.

Fukunaga turned in his recent draft at the beginning of the year, and while reports surfaced that major rewrite work was done to the script, sources say no significant changes were made, and the producers and Craig were excited with what Fukunaga had delivered.

Bond 25 is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and will be bringing Daniel Craig back as James Bond along with Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Wishaw, and Lea Seydoux. The movie is scheduled to start shooting sometime this Spring and hit theatres in April 2020. It was a huge commercial success, making around $880 million worldwide at the box office.
