The majority of teams in the league are also connected to cities.

"It's the Portland Trail Blazers", he told The Oregonian. There is a certain pride to the team being based in Portland.

"Blazermania affects Oregonians from all walks of life and from every area of the state, regardless of the city they call home", writes state Rep. E. Werner Reschke, R-Klamath Falls, in House Concurrent Resolution 15.

A new resolution proposed in the state legislature calls on the Portland Trail Blazers to adopt a new, more inclusive title: the Oregon Trail Blazers. "This is Oregon's team, not just Portland's", said Reschke in a press release.

While Reschke may share the sentiments of some others, would a name change really matter?

The Trail Blazers joined the National Basketball Association as an expansion team in 1970, and have been called the "Portland Trail Blazers" ever since. Reschke believes the change would allow even more Oregonians to embrace the team. There are now six teams in the National Basketball Association that use the entire state as a locator: the Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Trail Blazers owner and Microsoft-mogul Paul Allen died on October 15, and since then the ownership of the team has passed to his sister and the executor of his estate, Jody Allen. During his time with Cleveland, the 6-foot-8 swingman was able to gain invaluable experience by making his first trip to the NBA Finals last season. The fifth-year wing might find himself in a good position to produce from the bench if he is able to carve out a significant role in head coach Terry Stotts' rotation.
