Rene Meulensteen: Sir Alex Ferguson is so impressed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he can not help Sanchez after the former Barcelona star's disappointing performance in Tuesday's 2-0 first-leg loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The in-form pair will miss Monday's FA Cup tie at Chelsea after being injured against Paris Saint-German last week.

And despite the absence of Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, Berbatov feels Sanchez should maintain his place on the bench with Romelu Lukaku receiving the nod instead, saying: "I'm sure that Lukaku will get a chance now and he will use the opportunity to press his case for a regular first team slot".

'Ole has helped me a lot, just like he's helped all the players, ' Pogba told The Sun. That's what it's about when you go through periods that you don't perform up to your standard because we know there is a very, very good player there.

"It's just one of those things, like a bottle of ketchup when it never comes but then when it suddenly comes, loads comes out".

In fact, the 30-year-old hasn't played a full 90 minutes for United since August.

Pep Guardiola 'wants Tanguy Ndombele at Manchester City'
But Guardiola believes he has finally found a suitable replacement, but will once again need to battle United to seal the deal. The Citizens have relied heavily upon Ferandinho this season despite the 33-year-old being in the twilight of his career.

Asked if Sanchez was in danger of becoming United's equivalent of Mesut Ozil - a high-profile player whose performances are not justifying his wages - Charlie Nicholas added: "It pains people to watch [what is happening to] Sanchez".

Sanchez has played more than 700 games for club and country since making his senior debut as a teenager, raising suggestions that he has already peaked and may not recapture the outstanding form he showed at Barcelona and Arsenal.

"And I went back to the dugout and I said to [reserve goalkeeper] Sergio Romero: "I've just been whacked and I'm about to go on".

"It turned out the other way round but the FA Cup final is something we want to go to".

Alexis Sanchez admits that he is "worried" about his Manchester United future after failing to impress during his 13 months at the club.

"Sanchez needs game time to find his rhythm but when Rashford and Martial are fit, they play, so it's hard for him".
