'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 3 Super Bowl Trailer: Wake Up, America

Almost seven months after the final episode of season two of The Handmaid's Tale left viewers scratching their heads, fans of the Hulu series got a new look at what's to come during the 2019 Super Bowl on Sunday. Watch The Handmaid's Tale season 3 Super Bowl trailer below.

The commercial for the series, which is based on Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel rooted in women's oppression, is a play on President Ronald Reagan's 1984 re-election ad known as "Morning in America". The narrator repeated "It's morning again" on a loop as the images switched to violence, before the trailer settled on the face of June (Elisabeth Moss).

Get those alarm clocks ready.

"More women will go to work than ever before in our country's history", the narration said as a Wife gets dressed and then grabs a shovel. "This year, dozens of children will be born to happy and healthy families".

Sleepless night as deluge soaks 'disaster zone' Townsville, Queensland
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has again ordered schools that were closed in north Queensland on Friday to remain closed on Monday. Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said about 1000 cubic metres of water a second was still going over the Ross River Dam spillway.

But of course, what else would you expect from Gilead? "Wake up America", June says. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized "return to traditional values".

The ad included a shot of the National Mall in Washington D.C., where the Washington Monument has had some structurally questionable but religiously significant changes made to it. Handmaids line up in formation at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and the spot seems to imply that Moss's character was inside the structure when she told America to wake up.

Hulu provided the first glimpse at what's in store for Offred on Friday, releasing a short 10-second teaser trailer hinting at how Offred's fate may have turned out after the end of Season 2.
