Three Tory MPs quit party to join Independent Group over Brexit

The statement comes after one of the biggest political shake-ups in decades among the UK's parties, as three pro-European lawmakers resigned from the ruling Conservatives and joined an alliance dubbed the Independent Group opposing the Conservative government's decision to take Britain out of the European Union with or without a divorce deal.

In a letter to British Prime Minister Theresa May, the trio accused the Conservative Party of abandoning the political centre ground, and said "the final straw for us has been this government's disastrous handling of Brexit".

Mrs May said she was "saddened", but her party would "always offer. decent, moderate and patriotic politics".

They wrote: "We find it unconscionable that a party, once trusted on the economy, more than any other, is now recklessly marching the country to the cliff edge of no deal".

"No responsible government should knowingly and deliberately inflict the dire consequences of such a destructive exit on individuals, communities and businesses and put at risk the prospect of ending austerity".

The lawmakers have not yet formed a new party with an agreed set of policies and positions on key issues.

While the country is divided over European Union membership, most agree it is at a crossroads and that its choices over Brexit will shape the prosperity of future generations. "I know that many activists and members of parliament feel exactly as I do on social mobility". "The answer is no". "I can no longer represent a government in a party who can't open their eyes to the suffering endured by the most vulnerable in society - suffering which we have deepened, whilst having the power to fix", she said.

Eleven British politicians who have joined new political party "The Independent Group" pose for a photograph after a press conference in Westminster in London, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019.

"This is the game, of course, they will play but we are better than that, and we think our constituents and the country deserve better than that".

It found that 14% would support the new group, while the Conservatives had 38% of the vote, Labour 26% and the Liberal Democrats 7%.

The seven MPs who left cited various reasons for their departure, but the overriding ones were Labour's handling of antisemitism and Brexit.

Researchers also hope to find clues into how life started on Earth, according to the report. If that succeeds, the craft would then collect samples to eventually be sent back to Earth.

According to some reports, member Luciana Berger said on Channel 4 News that the group had funded the launch themselves.

On Monday, the newly resigned Labour lawmakers castigated Corbyn, accusing him of equivocating over Brexit and tolerating anti-Semitism within the party.

Since The Independent Group are not a party yet, however, they are unable to access such money.

May, like Corbyn, expressed disappointment by their announcement.

He added: "That is what I mean about listening, and constituency MPs should be there, first of all, to be able to say "I can hear what is going on in my constituency", passing up to their leaders and saying okay this global agenda, most people think is an worldwide agenda, most people think is not working for them".

Disgruntled former minister, Dominic Grieve, is another Tory MP believed to be on the edge of resigning from the ruling party over fears of a no-deal crash-out of the European Union if an agreement is not reached in time for the March 29 Brexit Day deadline.

"I suspect there will be more defections and I can see them winning elections in London and in parts of the southeast".

David Cameron pleaded with the three Conservative defectors to stay in the party hours before they quit, it emerged last night. "If we do our jobs properly, there won't be a Tory party to go back to", she said.

'Our party has always been able to contain different views on Europe.

He told talkRADIO: "That is the biggest problem, they are still not listening".
