The death follows the 35-day partial government shutdown in which TSA employees were expected to come to work without pay. The closure began on began on December 22 and lasted for 35 days.

The Orlando Police Department said the male agent jumped from the balcony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 9:30 a.m.

The officer was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital, according to the police. "This apparent suicide only adds to tragedy experienced at Orlando Int'l".

They confirmed that the individual was a TSA agent.

"Our hearts are with the TSA family during this very hard time", the Orlando Police Department tweeted.
