Others were unimpressed with her ostentatious rap and dance routine - which featured her twerking on a piano - with one writing there was "nothing exciting" about watching a performer lip-sync, while another added: "Cardi B didn't even sing - why'd she have to lip sync a rap??"

Placing a heart-eye emoji over her baby daughter, who was born in July past year, Cardi clasped her hand over her mouth in shock as Kulture echoed the word "Mama".

"I want to thank my daughter", she said.

An overwhelmed Cardi B won her first Grammy Award on Sunday night, making history as the first solo woman to win best rap album.

Lady Gaga received awards in the category Best Pop Solo Performance for "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?)" as well as Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her "Shallow" duet with Bradley Cooper from A Star Is Born and a further award for "Shallow", which was recognised as Best Song Written For Visual Media.

"He was like you're going to do this album", she said of Offset.

And while Cardi may feel frustrated with the horde of detractors, many of her peers - including Chance the Rapper - continue to sing her praises.
