Thousands of students worldwide are expected to walk out of class for the Friday protest, much as USA children and teens did a year ago for the National School Walkout on gun control, spurred by the deadly February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Thunberg's nomination comes just one day before hundreds of thousands of young people are expected to walk out of their schools on strike in 1,659 towns and cities in 105 countries to raise Climate Change awareness. We'll be walking from the University of Malta to the Parliament building in Valletta, to raise awareness on our future and our planet! "With our futures at stake, we call for radical legislative action to combat climate change and its countless detrimental effects on the American people".

A demand that our United States legislators implement the Green New Deal and other legislative actions to decrease the climate crisis.

One of the strike organisers, Year 13 student Molly Doyle said she believes the strike is the best way to create awareness of the situation.

Asked whether she feels optimistic about the potential of Friday's protest, Gillibrand replied: "I wouldn't say optimistic is quite the right word".

On March 15, students from 72 countries are skipping school to demand action on climate change.

Méabh Mackenzie is organising a protest with about 30 fellow pupils from Daliburgh primary school on the island of South Uist, with the express goal of standing in solidarity with other threatened island communities across the globe.

Chennai has also been ranked the region's safest city, while Karachi is the least safe. The Mercer survey evaluates local living conditions in more than 450 cities worldwide.

Her successful campaigning has resulted in her giving lectures at the UN Climate Talks and World Economic Forum.

"Everyone is needed. Everyone is welcome", she wrote.

How is the Nobel Peace Prize nominated and chosen?

"These strikes generally pop up around the world by passionate students who see the importance and emphasis that missing school puts on this issue".

A homemade poster of Greta Thunberg adorns her bedroom wall, as does the homemade placard that she brought on a recent children's rally on climate action.

I hope that you will be awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace.
