Months of misery jokes about being a backup and a private jet with strangers Inside Joe Flacco’s odd road to Denver

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Joe Flacco turned 34 years old in January and has thrown 5,670 regular-season passes in his previous 11 years' worth of games in the National Football League, yet both he and the Denver Broncos believe he's got plenty left to give for a team thirsting to end a three-year playoff drought.

So during an introductory news conference with Denver Broncos media, the longtime face of the Baltimore Ravens offense didn't sugarcoat the end to his time in Charm City.

John Elway made a pretty bold statement when he first talked about the Flacco trade publicly, stating that he thought the 34-year old was coming into the "prime" of his career.

"Barring anything insane happening, I'm as healthy as I can be, and as physical and as ready to go as ever", Flacco said, according to The Denver Post.

"If I have to reflect back on that time in Baltimore, it was not very fun", Flacco said.

Flacco agreed with Elway's assessment and pointed to Tom Brady, who at 41 is proving that quarterbacks have longer shelf lives than many believe. I'm excited about what lies ahead for me and the future, and I'm not putting a number on how much longer I can play.

All US diplomats have left Venezuela, says Mike Pompeo
The Venezuelan government disputed Pompeo's account, saying it had instructed the United States diplomats to leave. Pompeo explained the presence of diplomats in Venezuela at this time has put constraints on US policy.

The Broncos acquired Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a fourth-round pick. Flacco said he was disappointed to serve as a backup down the stretch of the 2018 season, while rookie Lamar Jackson led the charge to an AFC North title.

Flacco is projected to take over as the starting quarterback for Case Keenum, who was traded to the Washington Redskins after news of the Flacco trade emerged.

Because really, those months late previous year were agonizing.

"Hopefully [Flacco] is the guy to help get this turned around", Elway said.

Joe Flacco developed a reputation as a boring character early in his NFL career, but he's always been among the league's most honest quarterbacks.

Whether Flacco can play until he's Brady's age remains to be seen, but the Broncos think they have their man at quarterback.
