Dortmund now sits in second place in league standings after Bayern cruised to a 6-0 victory against Wolfsburg and took the lead on goal differential.

Robert Lewandowski netted a brace while Serge Gnabry, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich were all on target for the Bavarians who clocked 57 points at the top of the pile from 25 matches.

The Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart will be broadcast on FS2.

Bayern, who have won the past six German titles, are now two goals above Dortmund on goal difference. Dortmund's recent run allowed Bayern Munich to make up the nine-point deficit.

Bayern did all the early running, but Wolfsburg had a chance of their own when Yannick Gerhardt headed Maxi Arnold's corner over the crossbar.

Koen Casteels saved from Lewandowski and Gnabry, who opened the scoring in the 34th minute as he stabbed in Muller's low cross.

But the Bayern forward would not be denied again in the 76th minute, slotting home Franck Ribery's pass to end a week that saw him dropped from the Germany squad on a high. "We could have scored even more goals".

However, Paco Alcacer and Christian Pulisic sealed all the three points for Lacien Favre's charges, who lost too spot after title rivals pipped them by a better goal difference with a 6-0 trouncing of Wolfsburg.

The winger has now scored seven Bundesliga goals this season - also hitting a double in the DFB-Pokal last month - and it is easy to see why Bayern wanted to secure his long-term future.

It was also the 12th consecutive defeat for Wolfsburg coach Bruno Labbadia against Bayern, more than any other coach against a single opponent.

Speaking back at Hotspur Way on Thursday afternoon, Mauricio told Spurs TV: "It's a fantastic achievement for the Club and I congratulate the players, they can feel proud about their performance, their behaviour and the way we approached the game against Dortmund".

- Bayern have won 20 and drawn two of their 22 home league games against Wolfsburg.
