Dick's Sporting Goods will stop selling firearms at some of its stores in another move to tighten its policies surrounding firearms sales. Dick's had previously removed assault-style weapons at some locations and raised the minimum purchase age for firearms weeks after the February 2018 deadly mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida killed 17 people.

The company replaced hunting equipment in 10 stores where it had underperformed with "more compelling" products late in the third quarter and said those stores had positive comparable sales in the following three months. It put restrictions on ammunition sales and discontinued the sale of military-style semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines.

Dick's was once a major vendor of firearms in the USA, and though the industry was struggling before the decision, Stack has made it clear that the blowback hurt sales.
