Jaguar I Pace- 2019 European car of the year

The all-electric Jaguar I-Pace, now available in South Africa, has been voted "Car of the Year" at the European Car of the Year Awards 2019.

It's the first time an electric vehicle has won the award, and it's also the first time a Jaguar has been named ECOTY. The Jaguar won a runoff. At the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the award was handed to Ian Callum, the design director of all things Jaguar since 1999. "It's a whole new Jaguar on a whole new platform and it's the most exciting auto I've ever worked on".

The prestigious vehicle of the Year Award has been awarded by vehicle journalists since 1964, and hosted by Geneva Auto Show for the past eight years.

Turkey is one of 120 countries that participate in the GSP, the oldest and largest United States trade preference programme.

A potential sales generator, the award is organized by seven European magazines and awarded by 60 journalists from almost two dozen countries.

According to CAR Magazine, Jaguar's biggest sedan will be going battery-powered for the next generation, and ride on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) shared with the new Defender and another upcoming Land Rover that will be more like a car than an SUV. "It's the first electric vehicle from a European premium manufacturer that can take up with Tesla". Final tests were two weeks ago at a test centre outside Paris.

Last year's victor was the Volvo XC40 compact SUV. Check out the new Globe Drive Build and Price Tool to see the latest discounts, rebates and rates on new cars, trucks and SUVs.
