Johnny Depp slaps 50 million dollars defamation lawsuit on Amber Heard

After news broke that Johnny Depp was filing a defamation suit against his ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million, the Aquaman star issued a statement in response to the claims.

According to reports, the fiasco had broken loose following Heard's op-ed in The Washington Post where she termed herself as a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her ex-husband Johnny Depp. In the suit, Depp's lawyers claim those photos were not genuine and that he was the actual victim of her abuse.

The 55-year-old actor described Heard's 2016 abuse allegations as "an elaborate hoax", according to the lawsuit obtained by The Blast. "They were part of an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. She will not be silenced", the statement reads. "But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self-destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Depp and his legal team".

She said: "I write this as a woman who had to change my phone number weekly because I was getting death threats".

Amber Heard makes her way through the airport on Friday afternoon (March 1) in London, England. The actor claims to have neutral third-party witnesses, surveillance camera footage and the testimony of two separate police offers that refute Heard's claims of abuse.

In response, Mr Depp's attorney Adam Waldman told the magazine "we hardly intend to silence Ms Heard" but "look forward to holding the overwhelming video, photographic and eyewitness evidence we finally possess up against Amber Heard's (so far silent) attempts to explain the inexplicable". They had started dating after meeting on the sets of 2011 film The Rum Diary.

As we reported, the actress filed for divorce from Depp in May 2016, later claiming he had been verbally and physically abusive towards her. Depp said his ex-wife's public remarks have cost him work and damaged his reputation.
