Her father says she killed herself.

2016 Olympic silver medalist and three-time world champion cyclist Kelly Catlin died Friday night at her residence in California.

The United States rider was part of three successive world team pursuit triumphs from 2016 to 2018, while she was a runner-up in the same event in the Rio Games three years ago.

But Catlin's talent went well beyond cycling. Being a graduate student while simultaneously competing for the National Team on the track is often more hard. It's such a loss to the world and a loss to her that she's gonna miss so many good things.

Kelly was found unresponsive in her Stanford University dorm. Doctors were anxious about her lung development. Her father told the publication that she died by suicide.

In a recent VeloNews blog post on how she managed three intense pursuits, Catlin had written that she sometimes felt as if she needed "to time-travel to get everything done". "Sports, violin and she casually picked up cycling". Her brother Colin also confirmed that his "sister Kelly committed suicide". "We could get her to talk, but we wondered, 'what has happened to our Kelly?'", he said. "We had this secret club called the Federation to Buy Horses", she adds. "This wisp of a girl would pour on the power and outstrip everyone".

Initially, Catlin didn't remember that she hit her head and mainly noticed her road rash abrasions.

Following multiple crashes that resulted in a broken arm in October and a concussion in December, the athlete and scholar began embracing nihilism and questioning the point of existence, according to her family members.

"We didn't know about the racing thoughts and the obsessing over different things and the nightmares", Christine says.

New teachers entering the system will also have increased training in support of students with ASD during their onboarding. Cathy Abraham, president of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association, called it "a step in the right direction".

"We had been anxious because [Kelly] hadn't answered the phone in, like, a week", her sister, Christine, said, adding that she learned of her sister's death as she was biking. "We called police the moment we got the email and they got there in time to save her that time [from suicide]".

But the incident was far from behind them and she appeared frustrated.

Last month on Velo News, Catlin wrote about the difficulties of balancing her athletic and academic career.

Rob DeMartini USA Cycling chief executive released a statement on March 10 saying that the cycling community is sad about this loss. "The entire cycling community is mourning this vast loss", he said in a statement. We are offering continuous support to Kelly's team-mates, coaches and staff. "She spoke like a robot. She was exceptional in every aspect of her life". You had to go around collecting vehicle antenna, and she'd put it on a tripod and inside she had a tape recording of the beeps that Sputnik used to make and also some of the kind of Russian Mission control stuff as her presentation.

Christine said her sister's heartbreaking passing can serve as a reminder to slow down and enjoy life.

Kelly Catlin's cause of death has been revealed.
