Suarez and McDowell kept jockeying with each other, ultimately ruining both qualifying attempts. Suarez was then pushed onto the hood of the No. 34 Ford by a crew member, while McDowell was restrained by another.

"Just miscommunication on the race track", McDowell said about the incident.

"I definitely messed up his lap, but then he tried to crash us".

'It's just a lack of respect, ' Suarez told reporters after the fight. "Track position is very big in these races these days".

Both drivers saw their hot laps ruined in a chaotic qualifying session, with Suarez approaching his rival to straighten things out afterwards. You have to try to get out of the way if somebody is coming in your lap.

"He killed me in one corner". I thought he was going to get out of the way in the second corner, and he didn't, and I nearly wrecked him.

McDonnell added: "Scotland will be at the heart of a Green Industrial Revolution in our energy sector that could save this planet".

After both drivers failed to make it to the second of three rounds of qualifying for position for the TicketGuardian 500 on Sunday, Suarez went over to McDowell's vehicle to talk something out.

Just about everybody waited until the last couple minutes of the 10-minute qualifying session before going to the track, creating chaos on the mile-long track.

Suarez, who, unlike McDowell, was not wearing his helmet, ended up throwing McDowell to the concrete before several crew members and officials had to pin him against McDowell's auto as McDowell got back up.

He also went on to describe the brawl as "heat of the moment stuff", saying it all comes part of an "emotional sport".

"It was kind of chaotic out there", McDowell said.
