Plane Makes Emergency Landing in New Jersey After Possible Cargo Fire

Both runways were closed during what Newark Liberty called an "airport emergency", but officials later announced that flights had resumed.

A flight that reported a possible fire on board made an emergency landing Saturday morning at Newark Liberty International Airport, spurring a temporary closure of all runways at the airport.

Chauvin said she never smelled any smoke in the plane, and the landing went smoothly.

"Plane landed safely. Two minor injuries unrelated to any smoke condition".

If the test goes well, YouTube plans "to roll this out in more countries as time goes on", according to a spokesperson. While the information panel does show up below the search bar, related videos will still appear in the search results.

A Port Authority of NY and New Jersey spokesman said two of the 189 passengers reported minor injuries, and one was taken to a hospital to be examined. Another aircraft was to be sent to Newark to operate the flight to Fort Lauderdale, she said.

While the cause of the incident is still under investigation, the fire seems to have started in the plane's cargo hold, Coleman said. All 89 passengers were evacuated on the runway via emergency slides transported to a terminal. One hundred and eighty-nine passengers were aboard the flight, Cabana said. "We were leaning forward, and waiting, and the pilot told us we were making an emergency landing".

Once the plane was on the ground, it took only a few minutes for authorities to arrive and instruct passengers to jump out onto the cushioned mattresses.

"You don't want to live that twice, " Chauvin said. "It was very stressful".
