"One week since its launch, Spotify now has more than one million Indian users, across both its Free and Premium tiers", a company spokesperson told IANS.

Spotify's million-odd users, then, make up around 0.07% of this 1.34bn populous - hinting at the huge opportunity ahead of Spotify, and the intimidating vastness of the Indian territory, where it now competes with the likes of JioSaavn, Gaana and Apple Music.

We couldn't find such number for other music streaming services, so a comparison cannot be drawn on if it is the fastest growing music app in the country but a million users in six days is anyways impressive. A million-plus addition to this figure within five days of launch in India will be welcome news to investors.

Rajdeepak Das, managing director India & chief creative officer South Asia, Leo Burnett, said "Spotify is a pioneer in the music streaming space and it is going to revolutionise this experience in India". Last week, as if you needed reminding, the two parties fell out very publicly.

Spotify's been late to come to India and will face competition from global players like Apple Music, Google Play Music, and Amazon Prime Music.
